Finding Yourself On The Journey of Self Love

Ana tells us her story of leaving a relationship for the pursuit of self love.

Self Love Is A Journey, Not A Destination

Ana’s journey of self love awakened her greatest fears. She sat down with me to talk about her journey before, during, and after her position as VP of Development at Leslie Inc.

Self Love Is Doesn’t Put Yourself Last

Self love takes many forms. It requires us to take a hard, good look at ourselves to discover who we truly are. On the path of making others happy, we can lose touch with ourselves. And that’s what happened to Ana.

“I was trying to build a life around someone,” she says.

Ana recounts that she moved to New York City despite not even seeing herself living there. She met and fell in love with a man. Consequently, that was enough for Ana to compromise her heart’s desires.

Eventually, she found herself out of touch with her personal truth. And, as a result, she questioned her life and what sacrifices she had made to be in a relationship. Things got worse: she wasn’t feeling good or happy in her relationship. To her, it became a dead end.

Ana reflected back on the choice to live her life on someone else’s terms:

I remember I always think back the first time I worked in New York. I was contracted to work for Film Festival. And, I remember being in Grand Central Station, thinking, “This is a beautiful place…but I never want to live here,” I distinctly remembering that. And lo and behold, a couple years later I ended up living there, you know, so it was almost like, an unnatural fit. But I was forcing myself to make this work. Because I love this person who I still do, but just wasn’t the lifestyle I wanted.

Self Love Faces Down Hidden Fears

Ana received an offer from me to join Leslie Inc. to fulfill some work projects. Little did she know, the process of taking on a new job in an entrepreneurial company challenged her to face her fears.

In one example, she says, “The fear that comes to mind is… going into not knowing…just letting your flow or intuition leads you where you need to be.”

The dark path of facing her fears ultimately taught her what is possible:

“Every time I ended up going out there willing… you know what, I’m just gonna go to this meeting… and introduce myself… meeting people that were essential or critical to… something that we needed or lead to someone else.”

Facing her fears on the path of self love had its rewards and lessons. Meeting her self on that path was crucial to her success, even if it was not always easy.

Self Love Demands To Create A Life Worth Living

Ana embracing the entrepreneurial journey.

During her time at Leslie Inc., Ana was asked what she wanted from life.

The truth: she really didn’t know what she wanted.

The process of transformative self love demanded her to choose from life’s opportunities.

“The transformation was really kind of creating my own life that I wanted.”

She says that the journey of self love has encouraged her to embrace a healthier life style where personal awareness is central to her life.

I think this new year is really about me. Like, okay, what is this life that I want for myself…what is this, you know, living in this beautiful place, and the lifestyle that I want… the home life that I want… even the eating habits, you know, just I find myself, you know, at least once a week, if not taking a walk on the beach, going on a hike. And that for me, it’s been like, amazing, you know, just those reflective moments to be with myself, or with the friend just walking around. And having that moment that silence for myself, which I didn’t have in a weird way. It’s kind of like, love for myself.

What Ana Is Doing After Leslie Inc.

After completing her core projects with Leslie Inc., Ana accepted an offer from the Tony Robbins foundation. There, she is program manager for the foundation’s core outreach initiatives.

She says that her experience with Leslie Inc. taught her to see entrepreneurialism from a different angle.

She notes, “I really got to see the full 360 of what this entire company is and what it’s intended to do. It was very enlightening for me to have that perspective that you don’t learn that in school.”

She says the experience wasn’t even something she learned at previous work experiences, “You don’t learn that with experience at work. You learn that when you do your own company; when you do it yourself.”

This high degree of business perspective as well as reaching new heights in personal awareness drove Ana towards a healthier view of self love. The journey has taught her the entire process is an expression of self love.

Embarking on A Journey of Self Love

Ana’s journey of leaving the comfort of an inauthentic life was an expression of self love.

She learned how to face her hidden fears. She also learned how to evolve her business style. Furthermore, she developed a lifestyle that reflects her true self.

Ana isn’t really leaving Leslie Inc.. She is still involved in producing further stops on the Women’s Financial Freedom Tour and assisting with media appearances.

As my best friend, I am proud of Ana for facing down her fears, weaknesses, and ultimately meeting her self. I know what she has a journey to continue – with and without me – but I know she’s on the right track.
